A compelling movie. It has a hints of "Amélie" (a heroine who will do anything for everyone else's happiness but not her own), but is presented more tragically and realistically, and the 1930's feel is well done. Some acting is weak. However the screenplay (based on a novel) is well written, and you can't help but be moved by Cassie's struggles. A lot of funny moments, too. Well done.

Once I finished the book I rushed over to the movies, and I was absolutely thrilled. It was amazing.

Oh! The angst and confusion of growing up and yearning to understand the boundaries between sex and romance! This film beautifully exposes that journey. The cinematography is fabulous too.
