Did not mind this movie at all. The suspense, danger and mystery too, it was unique.

What does Scorsese create? He creates an ingenious of a picture which defines why Scorsese can make any film and twist it into a masterpiece. It's not about the investigation, which is what Scorsese fools us to think, it's about what's beneath the story and the unexpected sub-plot which blows our minds away. Just way to twisted and amazing. Leonardo DiCaprio on the other hand delivers the best performance of his career. He is emotionally engaged, and right in the film. His performance is what gives Shutter Island its substance. Shutter Island is one of the most underrated films I've ever seen.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
Scorsese moves away at what he usually creates on screen, and focusses more towards a dark grisly thriller with mystery written all over it. The best part of Shutter Island is he takes the film in a direction where you never thought he would go. In the trailer, and from billboards, you think the movie is about the one thing, the criminal investigation. However, the movie goes beneath that idea and focusses on something deeper and more personal. You think it's about one thing, but instead the film tricks you (Scorsese brilliantly tricks you) that the film is actually about something else. Scorsese's ingenious magic in which he confuses us with what the story actually is, and ultimately goes in a direction that nobody thought he would've gone towards. Shutter Island is a mystery, and is exactly what the film industry needs right now. A film that doesn't go over our heads in waves, and instead provokes us to think and it's directed by a filmmaker who can master anything. Shutter Island will shut you down and whirl you into the world of a crazy person. Leo's best performance.

I really like the movie, how it lets us into the character's twisted way of dealing with some messed up situation. Leo is very convincing, as usual and Mark Ruffalo was the perfect partner. The scenes were very well directed as it gave the viewer a sense of urgency that the main character was conveying. It made the ending even more mind blowing! Don't miss that movie! It was just a bit long at times which slowed down the pace a tad too much.

A definite brain twister and must-see movie. Keeps you on your toes, and the acting keeps you guessing. Leo was superb, as well as the supporting actors played their roles to a tee. Thought it was going to be more of a thriller, but i'am thrilled that it challenged my mind that much. Great movie!

This movie pulls you in and makes you question everything and everyone. It had more twists and turns than a pretzel. Leonardo was great as always, as was the writing and directing. It is well worth watching. Scorsese does it again!

On voit venir le punch gros comme le bras... Décevant... Points positifs: les décors et le traitement de l'image. Performance de Dicaprio correcte mais sans plus.

Overall quite enjoyable. It dragged on a bit and probably would have benefited from being a bit shorter. Nice ending that didn't opt for a cheap double twist.

Once again Scorsese and DiCaprio have teamed up to produce an entertaining film with a very well written story. Though the film’s twist can be determined by a scrutinizing viewer before it is revealed, the film maintains a fast pace with minimal lulls, making it seem much shorter than its 2:28 run time. Uncertainty flows within the protagonist throughout the film, and a good balance is established between truth and lies, as well as dreams and reality, keeping the audience both entertained and intrigued. The film’s ending encapsulates the story well while providing an excellent twist to a quality storyline.

Very confusing, and unclear plot. Leonardo's acting was the only good part of this film. I really didn't like it, and don't recommend it.

Typical of Leonardo... doesn't do a bad movie. But THIS one, well well written. Refreshing to watch a movie that's not predictable, nice twist, keeps you guessing, just AWESOME. Husband is critical with movies (esp Leonardo ones) and even HE loved it. It's a yes, go see!!

Ok let me be honest, when I saw this movie, by the end of it, I was blown away! It was such a good plot twist at the end. Then, the other day, I came across This Older movie Called Memento. Not only did shutter island have exactly the similar ending, But that movie is much better and is so original you have no idea. Don't watch shutter island, watch Memento, it has to be one of the best movies I've seen, right after Fight Club.

Simply amazing! The story and the psychology in it makes it a masterpiece. Leonardo Di Caprio does a great job. I loved the fact that everything makes sense yet it is not cut clear.

A dark film. Lots of tragic symbolism and twists of the mind, which might ostracize the light hearted, but certainly a lot going on in this psychological thriller. If you aren't a fan of the macabre or existential angst than this might not be a blast, but definitely a movie with substance.

OK so I read the reviews on here and thought "man I can't miss this movie". Well I would to know on what basis anyone could rate this movie any higher than a 6. yes the end is great, tones of twists but you have to go through the entire movie which could be summed up in 30 minutes. I would watch it for free on TV but would never want to pay to watch this again.

I'd read the book a few years ago, so I knew what to expect, but the performances, particularly Leo di Caprio's, opened my eyes to the living hell the mentally tortured must endure. Great Scorsese.

The previews made it look like a silly supernatural thriller, but surprisingly, this movie was excellent, from beginning to end. Don't want to give anything away, just watch it.

This movie bothered me. The previews sell it as a Horror flick. I expected something like Scorsese's Cape Fear and instead I got a "300" style blue screen for 99% of the movie, no real locations, all done in a studio thriller that was going nowhere, long and disappointing considering it is Scorsese flick and features the great DiCaprio but is a lame, lame movie. I give it some points for originality and for coming off as an independant foreign film but it is not! Not a worthwhile picture. Desappointing.
